Entry from: Berlin, Germany Entry Title: “A history lesson” Entry: “Despite the torrential downpour the previous night we woke to a fine, clear morning. Perfect to take down our tents. We arrived in Berlin at about 5pm and had dinner in the hostel restaurant. This was another upgrade to beds and rooms. We shared with another NZ couple. The hostel is brand spanking new so it was like paradise. Comfy bunk beds, pillows and snuggly bedcovers. That evening Martin and I walked along that part of the Berlin wall called the East Side Gallery. This is where artists have painted huge murals. Very cool. The next day we explored Berlin. We had a Third Reich Tour with an extremley knowledgable guide. Martin loved this and enjoyed hearing about Nazi Germany and the Berlin Wall history. We visited the Reichstag (Parliament), the site of Hitlers bunker, the longest standing part of the Berlin Wall, Former SS and SA Solider strongholds and a hugh memorial to the Jewish. Lunh was at a traditional bakery – I had an apple strudel which was tasty! After lunch we spent a couple of hours at a musuem called the Topography of Terrors which showed the history of Hitlers reign through Europe. Before we met the rest of the crew for dinner and a pub crawl we sat riverside and watched the boats go by. We were in bed by 2am as …
